The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum is a new 48,000 square-foot state-of-the-art museum, located in downtown Palm Springs, California and includes a large gallery for the story of the Agua Caliente people, a changing gallery to share exhibitions about Native peoples of the United States, a 1,000 square-foot store, education classroom, meetings rooms and an outdoor education garden.
Position Summary The Visitor Services Lead position supports management at the welcome desk and in the store as well as handle day-to-day interactions with the museum.
This position will be responsible for assisting the coordinators and manager with opening and closing duties.
Individual should be comfortable informing and discussing a culture that may not be their own.
The position will engage with many types of museum visitors and should be knowledgeable about the museum, it's location, and the surrounding area in Palm Springs.
The position will be primarily greeting museum visitors, processing sales, answering any questions from the visitor in both the admissions and the store.
Verify opening and closing cash drawers and deposits.
A successful candidate will enjoy interacting with visitors, be confident in handling cash, and will ensure that all engagement with visitors aligns with the Tribe's direction and voice.
Position will also be cross trained in the exhibition galleries, store, and welcome desk.
This position reports to the Manager of Retail and Visitor Services.
Duties and Responsibilities - Acts as the lead with cash handling and deposit verifications - Verifies all cash drawers at both beginning and end-of-day - Participates in daily sales transactions at the welcome desk and store - Covers for other team members for breaks - Maintains required level of information about museum and exhibits Qualities - Excellent Customer Service - Comfortable with cash handling - Willingness to learn and share the story of the Agua Caliente people - Integrity in their daily habits - A drive to build relationships with visitors and teammates Collaborates with - Manager of Retail and Visitor Services - Visitor Services Coordinator - Store Coordinator - Protective Services - Visitor Services Associates Qualifications - High School Diploma or equivalent - Previous museum or retail experience preferred - Ability to pass background check and drug test - Weekend availability and the occasional evenings as needed - A clear understanding and respect for the culture of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum mission Work Environment Typically, this position requires the employee to stand for extended periods of time, as well as walk, climb, crouch, and stoop.
The position will be mostly indoors with minimal time spent outside.
Using a computer and communicating with others will be a daily activity.
The position occasionally requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
