For the GS-4 level:
Applicants must have one year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work which provided the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position being filled; OR an associate's degree or two years of successfully completed education above high school; OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Examples of specialized experience include:
Greeted visitors and responded to phone and written inquiries; Used word processing software and printing equipment; Used a glossary of prerecorded formats, form letters, standard paragraphs, and mailing lists; Used database or spreadsheet software; Sold items and was held accountable for funds collected. For the GS-5 level:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level; OR a bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school; OR combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Examples of specialized experience include:
Accurately typed correspondence/reports; Used database or spreadsheet software to accurately enter, revise, sort or calculate, and retrieve data for standard reports; Read and processed incoming correspondence and material; Checked for accuracy and file material based on knowledge of filing system; Answered routine questions and provided information; Prepared, submitted and tracked requisitions of office supplies. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
