Vehicle Description Ford's sporty two-seat Thunderbird went into production on Sept9, 1954, and rolled on a 102- inch steel-bodied chassis.
The removable fiberglass hardtop was standard, as were roll-up windows and V-8 power.
The original Thunderbird was powered by a 292- CID V-8 Y-block with a single 4-barrel carburetor.
Output was 193 horsepower with the standard 3-speed manual transmission.
More power boosts followed in 1956 as the standard V-8 was upped to 202hp and an optional 312-CID Y-block appeared with either 215 or225 horses.
